(03/11/1969) -- The 363-foot-high Saturn V space vehicle for the Apollo 10 mission towers over the Crawlerway during its rollout today from the Vehicle Assembly Building, in background, to Launch Pad B, four miles away. The unfueled rocket, weighing a half-million pounds, and the 12-million-pound mobile launcher, were carried by a transporter to the launch pad at an average speed under one mile per hour. Apollo 10 marks the first use of Pad B, located near Pad A, which supported the launches of Apollo 8 and 9. During Apollo 10, astronauts Thomas P. Stafford and Eugene A. Cernan are to descend in a lunar module spacecraft to 50,000 feet above the Moon's surface while John W. Young orbits above in a command module. The National Aeronautics and Space Administration directs the Apollo program.
